General Position Summary
The Community Gardening Program Assistant (CGPA) facilitates the development, implementation and maintenance of the garden(s) and community gardening program. The CGPA will organize and implement the program, recruit participants and volunteers, collect evaluation data as directed, participate in writing reports, and generally ensure that the program is safely and effectively delivered. The CGPA must have experience in developing and maintaining community gardens, and working with diverse populations. He/she must be highly organized, a creative thinker, an effective communicator, and have a strong interest and expertise in gardening.
Responsibilities
- Manage development of the garden, including but not limited to site selection and evaluation, permitting, construction, and education/assistance on planting details;
- Coordinate all aspects of participant involvement in the community garden program, including but not limited to recruitment, information collection, gardening training, safety, and general oversight;
- Coordinate garden schedule (planting, harvesting, maintenance);
- Manage delivery, inventory, and storage of program supplies;
- Maintain program evaluation data and work with project staff to evaluate program outcomes;
- Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers;
- Coordinate outreach programs and events; and
- Develop and maintain relationships with strategic partners to ensure positive and productive collaboration to expand access to community gardens in Orlando.
Additional Duties
- Ensure excellence in program delivery and management;
- Participate in special events and meetings; and
- Accomplish other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred.
- Expertise in developing/establishing, implementing, and maintaining community gardens through participant community gardeners.
- Experience working and communicating with diverse populations.
- Able to solve problems creatively and work in a team environment.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weeknights and weekends as needed.
- Able to lift 25 pounds.
Terms of Employment
FTE: 40 hours per week.
Pay scale: Hourly rate, negotiable

This is a grant-funded, temporary position! Employment will terminate by August 2011!
